Well, almost.

From 528 lbs on the V-Strom 650 Adventure, to 432 lbs on my new Honda NX500. 96 to be precise.

But, it FEELS even less than that.

I’ve been watching for months for an NX500 in stock, let alone a good price.

Then I discovered a 2025 in stock, at a price below MSRP: $7,111.
No freight. No prep. Just a $200 “Doc” fee. Only problem was that it was 750 miles away at Jones Powersports, in Durant, OK.

Road trip!

The 1500 mile round trip took 3 days, but was worth it. The bike arrived home today, ready for the farkling to begin. And break-in. And first oil change. Then off to Spearfish.

After 3 years of great rides on my former CB500X, I am looking forward to an even better experience.

The NT1100 was a very attractive bike, just too heavy for this old guy.

Here’s a tease of my new “White Lightning”.

I was sure impressed with your old Honda 500. I will be very interested in your review of this one and what farkles you put on it. I am keeping my Vstrom. It doesnt want to take a nap at gas stations like my FJR does. I am completely worthless moving a bike around by standing by its port side and grabbing the handlebars and pushing. I have balance issues. Frosty can do it. I paddle. The FJR has put on weight over the years....thats my story and I am sticking to it. Ref NX...I like the Euro roll bar. Not the missing $149 center stand. I think the NX would have made, like the Vstrom, a good middle weight ADV tourer with proper bags and a luggage rack and real wind screen. I see a higher MSrP than you do right now, plus $600 destination fee.

Seems every vehicle I buy is only available in white: F250, Jeep, RV, and now, NX500.
I guess I could buy some Krylon.
I used to be a solid "no white" guy but I have to say your bike looks good. Never owned a white vehicle.

My preference is for white vehicles. The paint doesn't fade from UV light and a white vehicle always looks clean, even when dirty

A few farkles later, it now has a GiVi tank bag, grip puppies, Pivot Pegz, a tail rack, and a Giant Loop Great Basin 68 L bag.
Rarin’ to go.

I had ordered in advance of going to pick up the new bike. Need to be ready to head north real soon.
Certainly is easier moving it around the garage compared to the V-Strom!

My Givi tank bag is great and I got other rings to fit the gas fillers on other bikes and bought a spare bag on sale. It looks different than yours. When I was young and poor, I made my own soft sided saddle bags for touring only.

Packing a single 68 L soft bag will be a learning experience compared to the 2 metal panniers on the V-Strom.
But WAY lighter!

Many Japanese women on the web like the concept of one big bag but most dont camp. But there are places to camp in Japan. Would love to see what camping is like there. Ruriko isnt riding right now as she and her husband are expecting.
