The local Triump dealer has a very nice black 2020 Tiger GT pro with all the bells and whistles, including Triump/Givi panniers and 9,200 miles for $11,000. I test rode it and there is not a thing wrong with the bike...the rear brake works, it is great paddling around, the rear brake works, it has all the power you need, the rear brake works, it has an aftermarked Givi windscreen that is the cats meow, it has all the crash bars and running led lights and heated seats... and the rear brake works, unlike my Vstrom and VFR. I was already to hand them the keys to my 2014 FJR, which is worth $4,000 trade in but I would have taken $3,000.
Nope, we dont want your 39,000 mi Yamaha...and yes, we know we took in Phil's NT700v with over 100,000 on it.
Nope, we wont budge on the price, nor the mark up on the extended maintenance, nor the $200 document fees. And we gonna charge you $40 for a "Travel Permit in State", what ever the heck that is.

Further, they wanted to sell me a service contract for $1925 for 3 years. They said that would cover the $1800 valve check in 3,000 miles.

Other than the color and the lack of dealers, I have nothing bad to say about the bike. Its alittle buzzy at high RPMs but you dont cruise at high rpms.....
Panniers were in dealer and looked perfect. Windscreen looks bigger than it really is but goes up and down and is perfect for me.
Who wants an FJR?

I'd check the Triumph forums to see if many even have to adjust the valves. My 2 valve checks on my RT were in spec and barely moved, if at all.. and the GSA was also in spec and almost identical to the RT numbers. I may bypass checks 'til 50k miles vs ever 12k.

Also, valve checks aren't difficult. Buy a service manual and do it yourself, will save you a lot of $$, assuming you want to do it.

Chris, per your words of wisdom that you already posted …….if you want it and can afford it buy it. You ain’t gonna be here forever. At the dealership where I just bought my RT they had no problem taking my Tiger in on trade even though it was much less than perfect. They knew they could sell it.

Sure, the add-on charges and fees are irritating at best, excessive, and unavoidable. But I have gravitated to putting more importance on getting what I want than getting a good deal. I could have gotten a great price on an RT with a scuffed pannier and standard transmission. But I decided that whatever I saved would disappear upon resale.

It is talking to me but less so. The new 2026 650 and 800 Vstrom adventure bikes can be had for about the same bucks. Sans cruise. But there again, I have a very nice 2017 Vstrom with bars and bags I dont ride alot. The main thing to me is I have no idea if this dealer or any dealer will be in business in 2 years. Lana at the campground said car dealerships like Ford (sic) are loosing their ass right now as she repeated what the national news says...everyone is kind of waiting to see what happens.....it also bothers me the way i was treated by the sales/owner. They wouldnt budge an inch. Little things also bother me....the previous owner, not the original owner, apologized for not finding the case keys...he didnt know they were keyed to the ignition key...he said he had a knee surgury coming up and wanted someting smaller...wonder if I can get a car fax.
If someone else gets this black bike, so be it and more power to them. I have three bikes I dont ride enough now and I know a forum member who hasnt riden 3 of his bikes in two years.
The dealer also said they have too many bikes and they cant take more on consignment.
Still thinking in Spokane

I dont even check the clearance of my three bikes,,,much easier than changing shims....but asking the forum folk questions is a good idea.
I know Chuck has seen clearance changes.

At the ford pavillian at Oshkosh one year, they brought a bunch of cut away engines and components. They had a movie of torchure testing the pickup V6 eco boast engine. They say that is why with confidence they have no clearance check interval.

Valve checks as far as clearance are not hard once you get the valve cover off. Dont know why Triump wants $1800 to check and set the valves, but I suspect it takes awhile to get to the cover and get it off. The VFR Vtec is a nightmare to set the vtec shims. You have to fool the lifters, one at a time and reassemble to check one valve.

I've heard of that much for BMW boxer checks as well, which is even more crazy... but, they want to make their money.
