Hello All:
I Just wanted to report that on May 22nd, I completed another bucket list goal of mine and rode the Iron Butt Association 50CC Quest (Coast to Coast across the USA in under 50 hours). I did it on my NT700V (2010 - Red) which had over 50,000 miles on the clock and 74 years young for me - both the bike and I survived and had a ball! The bike other than one electrical glitch on the return trip home (Error code 8 - Throttle Body Sensor) worked flawlessly. I believe there is a loose connection somewhere, but haven't dug into that yet. On the road the positive battery terminal was a tiny bit loose, and I stopped at Richards Honda in Little Rock, AR to have them give it a look and reset the code. It is an excellent shop and super nice folks if you are traveling and need service. Oh, one additional problem was the bolt holding the center stand fell off someplace in TX, then the springs I guess left to go and visit the desert, and finally I heard the scrapping of the metal on the ground, which I thought was maybe the valves saying good bye. Lucky for me, a little coat hanger and a few large zip ties, and 8 minutes later I was back under way again. That repair got me all the way to San Diego and back home again to Florida.
This brings me to my question. Could someone who has not had the center stand removed, please take a picture of the way the springs are attached. I have made the repair and everything works, but the photographs in the shop manual don't show 2 springs? The replacement came with 2 and I don't remember what was there originally. The picture on Partszilla shows two, so that is what I purchased - one spring fits inside the other. Additionally, I mounted it with the coil portion of the spring facing towards the bike with the center stand in the down position. That matches the shop manual picture, but I am curious if the "hook" ends of the springs should be facing in the same direction or opposed to each other around the post?
