The roads in Switzerland have to be seen to be believed!

I've just come back from a week in Morgins, unfortunately in a car. The roads are just incredible for bikes. Switchbacks everywhere. Incredible views. Oh, and we had decent weather!IMG_20260307_085458_529.jpgIMG-20260310-WA0001.jpegIMG-20260310-WA0006.jpg

Yes I agree with you the Euro Alps are a motorcyclist paradise. Rode the Alps in 2017 and again 2019. Family health issues are keeping me from riding them again and again.

Just curious. Not seeing alot of smoke from wood burning stoves? Not popular in Switzerland?

We all have fires and/or stove in the chalets. The apartment building are usually only gas or electric.

The reason for no smoke was it was about 16°C (61°F) and very sunny, so no heat required. The chalet was at 1,376 m (4,515 ft) and 74 m (243 ft) above the town. Rather a strenuous walk into town to get the bread at 7 am every morning...

We were sitting out on the balcony, in shirt sleeves, enjoying a beer 🍻 after the long drive to Switzerland in the first photo!

Cool! (Spokane county had a huge smoke cloud/temperature inversion issue in the winter due to 40,000 wood burning stoves. They they outlawed the purchase of non-EPA certified clean burning stoves and it really cleared things up. I live 600 ft above the town and am out of the smoke control zone. 👹

Yoh... nature and roads are nice there...

I however have two major issues:

and

pretty much nationwide... 😒
They have interesting speed limit enforcement.
Switzerland has strict, generally enforced speed limits: 120 km/h (75 mph) on motorways, 100 km/h on expressways, 80 km/h on rural roads, and 50 km/h in built-up areas (often 30 km/h in residential zones). Speeding penalties are severe and based on income. This official government site offers more details on fines. I take it there are lots of unmarked areas with no passing?

Very true, speed limits are becoming a real pain. We didn't find it a problem on the mountain roads. Oh, in all the time we were there we didn't see the police at all, anywhere, and only saw 2 speed cameras. Yes, I know the fines are outrageous.

Some of the roads we were on 60 km/h would be reckless most of the time (the old road to Morgins for example) and probably impossible unless you are a Moto GP rider. There were sections where passing was allowed.

I imagine that in high summer it is a bit crowded. Winter, not so much for motos.
