I believe that Honda calls it a "position" bulb. It serves no purpose here in the US but in many of the European or Asian countries where it is sold it serves as a parking lamp that can be left on when you park at night.

It's also a "backup", if the LOW beam fails you're still kinda visible, hence it's always powered...
(like the H7 failed on my GF's NT in Norway, but I still could locate her in the traffic behind me...)

Funny you mentioned that. I was riding to work one morning while still dark and the low beam suddenly failed. It took a few moments for my old brain to register what happened. While I was still visible to other traffic the position bulb offered no assistance in night time navigation. A few days later I replaced the position bulb with an LED of considerably greater luminescence. I don't know that it would be any better in a sudden failure but I am more visible to others.... not a bad thing!

How does one change the Position Bulb..........is dismantling the whole front cowling required?? I don't see how you could get your hand in there to take it out...???? Thanks for all your help/responses.

I'm surprised that tiny bulb does anything for visibility. I also would like to know the process to change it? Thanks

I had a low beam burn out on a country road while returning home at night. Scared the crap out of me, however there was just enough light there to keep me in the road until I responded by hitting the high beam. I'm glad that little thing was there. Can't help you with changing it, however will watch this thread or take a look to see. Mine is still working after 84K miles and I may even see about putting a bit brighter one in there when it goes.

i wouldn't change it!!! not required in USA. it lasted the whole 201,111 miles on my first NT, and 81,000 miles so far on my second NT. spend your time on maintenance that means something!!
Parking light, we don't need it.
