Hello, my name is Chris and I am a tent a holic. All told, I have 12 tents. My wife has one I gave her she really likes. It holds her and 3 attack dogs.

She likes the Kelty Grand Mesa 4 and I admit it packs about the same size as the Midori 3

Size comparison. The old Quest 4 with its old fiberglass poles wasnt a bad tent....but no vestibules....but it was cheep. I had many like it before the zippers or fiberglass poles broke.
Now that the AMA considers me elderly, one of the concessions I have made is to swich to a 2 man tent (OK, really one man and an Indonesian or Thai helper. )

I like camping too but my body doesn't. I'm thankful that at least I can still crawl in and out of a tent (with some difficulty). But buying a new tent won't make me any younger. The root of the problem.

I would LIKE a two bedroom, bath and a half tent. Full stand up height, room to park my bike inside, and a closet to hang up all my gear.
Too bad there’s no way to bring one that big along. Next best idea is a motel, I guess.

Once upon a time, for two years, a 2017 and 19, a guy named Pat From Missoula came to Reno, and a nicer person you would not meet. His tent had a hanger for his bike. The church sold showers and there were lighted porta potties.

Hmmmm ... half bath would be outdoors .. throw cover over bike ... but ... View + Kendon trailer= (no sleeping in tent for two weeks - abuse for trailering to Rallys) .

At our age we can travel in any type of luxury as we chose, and be damn with the naysayers.
And us EX military guys have probably spent enough time in some sort of tent or other unconventional sleeping arrangements...........Well maybe not the Space Force.:rofl1:

Ha! Harley glamper. :rofl1: Wait till I raise the fuel tax past the Bill Clinton levels adjusted for inflation. Tax the motor homes to pay for Ferries. Want to camp in Japan.

It is good to have options but 12 tents seem possibly excessive. Too many choices to pick out the right one for that next trip.
I'm not much of a camper but I can understand the appeal. Like for me hunting in the woods as the sun comes up and the woods wakes up is a very special time and place.
Enjoy those tents.

Frosty, what were the sleeping arrangements on the Tanker planes for long distance flights?
I don't remember any flights that required any sleeping rest for crew] (8,000 miles = 14.5 hours). That said, the KC-135 was designed and equipped to operate from anywhere with sufficient runway and some fuel. The crew could live aboard with a heat/electricity APU and cartridge engine starters. There were bunks fastened to the fuselage that could be moved about the aircraft. On normal deployment trips (TDYs), the maintenance crew chiefs would use them since their work was before and after the flight. Here are 4 bunks clipped up for storage at the aft of the aircraft. The Boom Operator position is below the O2 gas bottles. The interior edges of the bunks are supported by straps clipped to the ceiling. APU is on the left (port) side.

In retirement, ,mostly I would camp out 30 days a year.
At the Quigley buffalo rifle shoot, I would camp out 5-6 days in the middle of no where. A five man tent was perfect, as it was with 3 dogs and wife at Helena fair grounds for a dog show. At our ralley, 3 man tents were fine for 2-3 days. Other bike trips were fine with a 3 man tent. Oshkosh I used to take a 5 man but 4 is fine now for 5 days. For the 9 nights at the Reno air races, a 4 man was perfect but a 3 would do. Now gonna try 2 man for short periods like North cascades or Hood river fly in., At Helena, we were the only tent campers.
