Saddlebag latches broken

I use the Southco latches on my lids ordered on eBay. I asked the vendor for "keyed alike" latches and that was what I ordered. I feel the epoxy is only a temporary fix, these latches do not fail. I used aluminum rivets, and I put a small stainless steel plate on the inside of the latching plate to protect the plastic.

Actually, you really only need one per side. One big one.

JB weld didn't work.
5 minute epoxy does the job...

the nifty cannulas mix the two components while depressing the plungers...

I'd build a mold/dam with masking tape around the broken bosses, filled the area up, applied a slight film of silicone spray on the threads of the self tapping screws and turned them in.
Let the mix set, remove the screws and shim the strikers with some nylon washers to reduce the required force to close/latch the lids in the mechanism...
Works fine ever since...

Was thinking about this today. Guys at work 3-D printed (essentially) airplane wings with a span of about 10 feet. I think we (someone) could print large, and really, any sized/shaped aft luggage containers for this bike.

If some creative soul would take the time to do so and if they were reasonably priced, I think they would find a ready market. Just out of curiosity, what would you be willing to pay for a set of replacement 3D printed panniers? I'll go first, I would pay ~$400 for a set. Hopefully, they would be made out of more durable plastic.

My ultimate solution to the pannier latch issue (and other issues) was to buy a new motorcycle. Solved everything. About 100 pounds lighter, cruise control, 35 more hp, 6th gear, smoother engine, AND functional panniers. It also came with new tires and a new battery. Happy rider.

Which bike afforded you this solution? I’m shopping….

We printed a 4 foot long replica of the Little Boy weapon, and the raw material plastic that actually got shaped and printed was something like $35, IIRC.

2016 Triumph Tiger 800 ((which has become the 900 now). Frosty has one. I sold my NT to a guy from the ST forum who wanted a lighter bike. I didn’t think the NT was lighter than much of anything but it really is lighter than the ST 1300.
