Actually, I am a bit more subdued....I cut down 7 trees very carefully and chipped the branches very carefully. Yes, it could have been so much worse...but its no fun being a lefty and typing and useing a mouse. I keep telling myself the swelling will go down and there will be enough feeling to remove a spark plug or pick up a cookie. Just takes time. Right now, the hand to the first joint is fine but a bit swollem The joint to the wound stiches is not too bad. I could pick things up but I have to keep the joint limber. Above the stiches (now out) its pretty numb but better on the down side. The doc and PT guy doesnt want me babying it. They want me to massage it with hand lotion twice a day. This is day 24 so its gonna take awhile. I figure it Scotty from STARTREK can loose his right middle finger on D day, I can deal with this. Thanks to all.

And they say motorcycle riding is dangerous.
Nah! Work and chores around the house lead by far in all accident statistics... just as this case here proofs again...

It hurts looking at the pics... :(
Hoping for a fast recovery...

Being HVAC engineer/installer, thus handling power tools most of my life, I did suffer some nicks of course (even came down a ladder or scaffold once or twice, not to mention braking through a rotted tar roof...), but never as bad as suffering a partial amputation... ouch!

Chris, do you enjoy old Rock and Roll bands? I say that because you seem to have a connection with the group Badfinger.

Seriously, I hope the numbness goes away and somewhat normal feeling returns. I would guess that could take some time.

Being a farmer/rancher is very dangerous, as is working in machine shops. 80 percent of the pain is gone now...the main thing is to get all of the wound healed and see how many nerves remain. At least I can still ride and use a chain saw and chipper....a modified chipper....complete healing takes time. And dealing with the numbness. I go back and forth about asking for compensation. The branch hooked my glove and took my hand into the blade, so I made an extension of the chute where that cant happen. My other chipper has an even longer chute. There is no way a chute should be 15 inches to the blade. I painted the extension orange.

I would show a pic but although its still gross, my PT guy says it looks fine and the wound heals from the bottom up (just now). Its mostly stiff. I see the doc and pt guy on the 10th. I dropped IIRC 6 big trees and shreaded the branches and distributed the chips. The trunks can wait. I put the lawn tractors to bed.....still pleanty of work to do. I just work slowly. Putting on a 10 cent temu condom on my finger makes it much easier to get my hand into a glove.

Well, the (230VAC powered) gadget I obtained for ze GF's garden is by far not "as manly" as the P&S powered pictured above...

whilst it seems more "idiot proof" with an intake not even a child could reach in...

Chippers are brutal. The one I used at a college money making job removing American elm trees that died from Dutch Elm Disease in the '60s was powered by a big V8 engine. It would chip anything I could lift into the chute. Extremely noisy and dangerous X3. I don't remember anything about OSHA back then and there were no warning labels on it either. It ripped the shirt off of one of my co-workers when a branch snagged it. It was over in less than a second and I still remember the look of terror on his face. I respected the machine and lived through the experience.

Also rotating shafts and pulleys have claimed a lot of appendages, limbs, and lives too.
But modern motorcycles are pretty safe UNLESS we get stupid. Did you read the word UNLESS?????

Like chain maintenance with the motor idling and in gear ... what could possibly go wrong?

Tree #7 fell right on a branch. What could possibly go wrong?
