Toured the Nation Museum of Military Vehicles again. And had a great visit with one of the Curators. A veteran and a military historian.

But sadly the Cowboy Cafe is closed on Wednesdays. So I went across the street to Noon Rock for a salad.

The canteen is expensive but worth it. But every place is costing more. Even those Taylor farms salads with the parasites.
Here is something to be aware of if you live east of the mississippi. Like in Florida in the Winter.
There is a tick called the Lone star tick.

It can carry a disease that willl make you allergic to bacon (actually all meat but bacon sounds worse)

I know 3 people who have contracted the Alpha-gam disease. Really nasty. They can’t eat anything from a mammal. No meat, dairy, or anything cooked in grease from a mammal. It causes an immediate and severe allergic reaction.

Its so sad. This is the first I have heard of it. Ticks carry nasty diseases. We occasionally find one. I have a cousin from MN who has slight permanent nerve damage and I know a retired United Capt seniority number 1 who almost lost his carrerr due to a tick bite. Every year, we take a small garlic jar and fill it half full of alchohol. Any ticks we find on us or the dogs go into the jar. This year we found 8.
The hardest thing to teach nimrods is to never touch a tick that is attached. We have special fine, curved tick tweezers to grab them by the head and twist them off. Anything else and they regurgitate into the wound.

Our tick season starts in early spring. The Deer ticks (Lyme ticks) are the first ones out. I’ve seen them out in temperatures well below freezing. As the temperatures get warmer the Dog ticks dominate through the summer. And the in the fall the Deer ticks return.

We use a jar of water with a little dish soap fo tick disposal. When dropped in the soapy water they immediately sink. When out in a grassy area it isn’t uncommon to pick up 5, 10, or 50. We find them crawling on our clothing, skin, and stuck. As a guess I’d say almost 85% on clothing, about 13% on skin and 2% stuck on average. But on a bad day it can be several times higher than average. Of course our dog comes in the house and shares his ticks with us too.

My wife has a horse that contracts Lyme disease every year and sometimes twice. Sometimes the horse also has Ehrlichosis or Anaplasmosis. I’ve had Lyme disease several times and my wife has had it a bit more than I. They no longer test for Lyme disease around here. If you have any clinical symptoms they just treat you for Lyme.

Correct. Back then, some people would strike a match and hold the flame near the tick. All either did was make the tick excited and throw up their poison into your blood stream.
"Never use a lit match to remove a tick because heat can cause the tick to regurgitate disease-causing fluids into your bloodstream. [1, 2]" Harvard Medical school.

I think most of us do. I was in Northern Wisconsin fishing along a weedy bank and got seven on me at once. They also have their various stages.
