New Low stress Cody WY tour

In my old age, less is more.
I have just booked my new low stress Cody tour.
First night, Spokane to Butte MT. $107 Under 350 miles
Second, Butte to cody. $130 at my fav motel for 3 nights of riding parks and passes. Under 300 miles
Day 5, get up and ride through Yellowstone, eat breakfast at Yellowstone lake lodge, petting Bison. End up at Red Cliffs camp ground.
Day 6, ride home on beautiful US 287.
Do I take the VFR or XT Vstrom? Decisions decisions.

I rode my son's VFR for 12 miles and thought it was a great bike, and I've owned 4 Vstroms (for a combined 227,000 miles) and, obviously, thought they were great bikes.....does that help??

And..
We, Momma and I and a bunch of friends, are also taking a Yellowstone, Beartooth, Cody trip the last week of August. If you see a blue/black NT1100 with a roguishly handsome rider gimme a wave!

Well, I am back a day early due to "interesting" weather but met some interesting people. The VFR with a few mods is a great bike and its my bike of choice for Western WA but now every year wildfires keep me away.
My Vstrom did well except for the last 30 miles, when it blew a C32 trouble code for front fuel injector circuit anomoly. A bit after getting home, the check engine light went out. I guess I will ask stromtroopers how to reset the code and ride it for awhile. It is clear at my age, the Vstrom sized bike is the cat's meow for making safe, slow speed manouvers.
I hope you dont have to contend with Canadian and other wildfire smoke. Cody was definately low occupency, but the park was crowded.
I should have ridden an NT when I had the chance. I think it is hard to describe how it drives unless you have driven one. For instance, if you are in a sissy mode, like S1, and roll on a bunch of throttle, does it downshift and take off? The ergonomics are good except for the hard seat but I like they way the Vstrom seat fits my rear....

I do not know your route but if you are going down thru Teton NP, you might look at going to Dubois WY to see the National Military Vehicle Museum. Several of us have been there and some of us several times. It is very well done and worth a visit. Have a great trip.
Fun return from Spearfish ... RON in Cody ... Buffalo Bill Scenic Byway to Yellowstone east entry in the morning with the early sun lighting terrain ahead ... then fancy brunch buffet at the Lake Yellowstone Hotel ... then a nap :)

I dont think I have ever done lunch at a lodge. The breakfast buffet at Lake Village lodge is great but they stop seating at 10 am. The traffic in Yellowstone just keep getting worse and worse.
 
I’m in western MT now. Visiting a friend there then heading to WY. Then to UT (if it isn’t too hot).

My new BMW R1300RT is just amazing. Comfortable, agile, and deceivingly fast. I’ve never enjoyed any motorcycle more. So, ya, if you see a blue RT with an old geezer in a yellow Stich - wave

Today I rode over to Hamilton to visit some old friends. I took the scenic route.

There was a traffic jam in Anaconda.

Yep, that road is gravel - about 15-20 miles of it. There was a fire headquarters set up on the east side of the mountain and 2 active fires on the west side.

Keep an eye out for shifting smoke....we are in for a hot spell but then cool by the Weekend. Barb is off to a dog show in Helena so I will be busy doing "forestry". They caught a fourth arsonists today but there are others still on the loose.

Montana is full of great places to ride.....but there is one place to avoid if you can.....Missoula.....the traffic is incredible.....and dangerous....like Spokane Valley. But there are towns like Dubois WY and Three Forks MT where you can literally stand in the middle of main street and take pics without getting run over.

Dubois is great. Always have to get some ice cream in the middle of town.
