Internet Down

Do you have a Verizon tower near you? I have Verizon 4G Internet service and consistently get 40-50MbPS at about $45/month.

It would be worth a call. The nearest Verizon tower is 5500 meters away but the provider would have to shoot through alot of trees. Signal strength is -117 db. If I hold my tounge just right I can make calls and send texts. Even load an internet page or two if I am not in a hurry. A good directional antenna might make a difference ...I will have to take my phone with me to the tower site and see its elevation. I am at 2376 ft ASL, so I also could be shooting through ground.
Chris is hill country.
Mike, how many devices can you use at once and is there a data limit?

No limit to devices and no data cap. Between momma and me, we don't use much data but at Christmas with the four grandcritters here gaming on their phones, and son and daughter in-law on their laptops we have no problems.

I have Verizon for my cell phone but apparently I’d need 5G service to get home internet (according to their website). Not available here. I currently use my local phone company’s fiber line right to my home for internet but don’t have landline phone or TV. Cost is nearly $100/month. It’s the only non-satellite option here.

Jim:
Here Verizon offers Internet for both 5G and 4G. Obviously the 5G is faster but I have the 4G and it works great. I would call Verizon and ask or if you have a nearby Verizon store nearby hook up the dogs to the sled and mush on over and ask them.

Interesting. 5G is hit or miss around here. I dont think my sort of close Verizon tower can provide 5G....at least my phone apps about towers and signal strength dont indicate they will. The nice thing about our internet is its only $73 a month, I use wifi calling and the signal is much better than my 50 year old twisted pair phone lines which the phone company refuses to fix. I stream figure skating and that's about it. Still have rabbit ears. Most TV is a vast wasteland anyway except for PBS.

That verizon tower is 50 ft lower than my house so unless they have a fancy gain antenna, I am SOL....but if my net goes down, I will keep it in mind. Starlink would be the cat's meow but Musk refuses to offer on the ground troops and has to keep raising prices as his birds are falling out of orbit. The customer service of my current company is first rate.
