Got's me a 2025 NT1100!!!!

Ride home. First impressions.... seems like the rider portion of seat same as 700. What makes it harder to mount, is passenger portion is higher up, causing a higher leg maneuver. The rider seat has slight forward angle causing motion to slide towards tank, making a wedgie imminent!! Suspension seemed a bit harsh. Checked tire pressure when home, all good there. Have to look at rear adjustment on shock, probably could back off some. Front forks don't have adjustment. Only engine has different modes.
53 mile interstate ride. Looking for a bigger windshield, none yet or one made in USA. Did look at UK NT1100 forum for windshield and seat recommendations, none found for made in USA.

Have NOT had chain drive since my first 1978 Suzuki GS550 street bike, after that all have been final drives.

So need to goto the chain guru of this forum Chuck. Please enlighten me on what you use on chains and procedures.

DCT at low throttle, shifts fast. Seems to have a shutter at lower speeds, and seems to be a bit buzzy at lower speeds. Was getting around 40 computer mpg on my ride home at 71 mph.

Oil filter is same as 700. Coolant overflow tank is in a wierd place, just look above brake lever, there it is. Yep, down that low. Missing the 700 front storage pockets on the 1100. Darn, NOTHING in front area for storage. Only under passenger seat.

Just real weird to get used to DCT. You can manual shifts at any point, as paddle shifters +/- there to do it. Did manual downshift to rev it up and get going. Got plenty of HP at 101, to get up and go
Going to ride Sunday afternoon. Ordered Givi Maxia top box tonight
I noted on Mellow's road test the seat issue. Be careful. How hard is it to put on the center stand? In England, some bikes come with the panniers. Need them. I have never ridden a DCT. My Subaru has a CVT but it also has a transmisison computer that has 8 distinct "gears". Or shift points. If I put it into manual, there is a readout on the dash showing which gear you are in. It was clear that this bike is going to need a bigger windscreen, like my V strom and VFR. I will be interested in the buzz. I am now spoiled as there is no vibration to speak of on any of my bikes.
I like Chuck's idea of the Dupont chain cleaner and chain wax system. I made a cardboard shield to fit vertically behind the sprocket and chain so I turn the wheel and put on the cleaner and use a sproket brush, repeat. Let it dry and put on the wax and let it sit 20 min. IMHO if you have a gritty chain, its gonna wear the sprocket.

You can make the card board as high as you want

Just got back from my local Mom and Pop Honda dealer (Aurora Honda) and finalize the numbers on the NT1100. Decided to trade my Big Versey 1000 SE, and keep my FJR a while longer. His computer says the NT has shipped yesterday. So I am expecting it at the end of the week or maybe early next week. Gave me a pretty good deal on the trade and almost a 20% discount on the panniers and top box etc. Plus a very good price on a 4 year extended warranty. If I decide to part with the FJR he said he will floor it for me as a consignment. Got all this in writing. All that needs to happen now is NT is delivered, I take the Versys down to the shop, We sign the official papers, and I hand him a check for the balance.

I will be looking forward to your report on what its like to ride. I was looking at your bikes and decided that I would also trade in the 1000 SE.

Can't wait to see it and get your input. You should have a pretty good feel for it by the time you get here. Ride safe and see ya soon !
Givi top box coming Friday, hoping saddlebags will be here by Wednesday, leaving Thursday morning. Won't be fun on the OEM seat for that long of ride.

In your initial road test you said that the NT1100 seat was very much like the NT700 seat. I found that the NT700 is quite comfortable, even on long trips. YMMV

Not exactly what I meant. ONLY seat height!! Shape is more U type shape, like the adventure bikes. Just going my :45 to work, I can tell going to be very uncomfortable for multi hour day

That's a shame :(. Everything else about the bike seems ideal for a multi hour day. Will an Airhawk help or will it require a new saddle entirely?

I used aersol chain wax for years. I got tired of carrying aersol cans on road trips. I made the switch to gear oil, brand doesn't matter and the stuff is cheap. The ONLY aersol can I carry is Spray Clean & Polish (or Bike Spirits). That stuff is for cleaning the bike and bugs off my visor.

Road trips on a sealed chain bike, I carry small squeeze bottle filled with gear oil, old toothbrush and microfiber cloths. Every few hundred miles or whenever time apply gear oil with brush, use cloth to wipe off excess which also takes some dirt with it. No worrying about spray cleaning chain, dried wax lubricant chunks everywhere etc etc . Just oil, wipe and go.

Found out battery placement is right behind heads and right above crankcase, too close to all the heat for me. Inside a plastic box and its smaller lithium battery. Got Android Auto to connect by cord to USB. Has a power cig adapter on other side. Heated grips are nice. Has a temp gage, so don't have to add that like 700. Those headlights are great driving 4 nights now weather low or high beams, so that means don't have to add 900 lumen driving lights like 700 either. The LCD touch screen can easily keep track of maintenance items. Has 3 engine modes, Tour, Urban, Rain, User. Can adjust power, engine brake, torque. There is something that looks like it turns on the fork cap 1 side, have to check in book. Overseas models can have front and rear on the fly suspension. Rear shock dials up/down like 700.

Does it come with a toolkit or like the later ST1300, just a screwdriver and a piece of foam.? Also it is suppose to have self canceling turn signals. Does it? or is that just the NON US models.

Your 700's had temp a gauge, didn't they? You've got me worried about my remembery.
Mike

You said it has a lithium battery?

No tool kit. Some things are attached to bottom of seat. 5mm allen wrench, fuse puller, and something else. Does have self canceling turn signals that can be turned on / off in settings. I left mine on.

I think we is talking apples and oranges. The temp gauge I am referring to is the "coolant" temp gauge. In rereading your post, I suspect you mean the ambient "thermometer". I added one to my NT also as I want to know the ambient temp.

Traded in my big Versys 1000LT SE for the new NT1100. Took the Versys down to the dealer signed it over to him. He said my NT was shipped on Wednesday the 7th of May. Should be here next week. (I hope) Have order the panniers and top box on the 6th of May. We will see how long that takes. I down loaded the operators manual in PDF form and have been reading up on the bike a little bit. Not sure this old brain will be able to figure out all the settings and selections. He gave me almost 10K trade for my Versys as it stood with all my extra on it. Gave me 50 cents on the dollar for the value of the extras. Saved me from having to take them off and try to sell them on the Versys forums and FB market place.
