14th Nat'l NT Rally - Jun 19-22, 2024 - Spearfish, SD

Ahhhh - There is nothing better than the refreshing than the early morning air crossing the corn belt and the smell of pig poop.
Cool... lol

Sitting at work, I don't wanna work.. .I wanna leave now!... Darn mortgage...
Don’t worry Joe. You’ll be able to leave as soon as it starts raining.

Packing today. Leaving Sunday morning. First stop Lake Cobbett, Colorado on the Grand Mesa. Should be a chilly nite at 10,300 ft elevation.
My reservation at Chris’ campground is for arrival Tuesday. That way I get first dibs on the best campsite.
This year’s trip should be much faster (and easier with cruise control) on the 650 VStrom than last year on the CRF300.
Looking forward to good times.
Me headed through mountains Monday, not Wed.

Looks like a light crowd this year. Only 3 on the RSVP list.
Rarely does everyone going actually register ... lol... it's a pretty rebellious group always trying to buck the system and deny anything 'The Man' tries to use to control them... :rofl1:

3 or four nice people are worth riding for....is Redbird AKA Ken still on this side of the daisys?
I am preparing the FJR for the trip. It looks like I could take the VFR, which is prepped, if I were willing to tough out one bad day from Lookout pass (49 degrees, snow showers quitting at 9am turning to rain), over Homestake pass (41 degrees and wet) to three forks (51 and rain) Then a cold Tuesday morning ride. But the foot , hand, and windscreen protection is so much better on the FJR....:)
right now its 55 and its graupeling in Spokane.

After much keyboard punching, I have decided to Leave on Tuesday , not Monday, arrive Thursday. This will make a much more pleasant trip of the 2.5 days.
Missoula Monday High 48, 90 percent rain...Missoula Tuesday, High 62, 24%
Homestake pass east of Butte. Monday, High 44, 90 percent rain. Tuesday, 55. 25 percent.
Buffalo wy Tuesday, 57 high and 18 percent rain. Wednesday High 69, 14 %
etc.

Oops. Forgot to press the “post” button yesterday. Here it is a day late.

Well it just happens that I’ll be visiting Jim Moore later this AM. Funny how things come together.

No worries Chris. We will be glad to see you when you get there. Ride smart.

Kind of cold. I thought this was late June not May. I could have stayed home if I wanted to freeze. I didn’t pack my long johns. It’s in the high 40’s today and forecast for the low 30’s tomorrow. Ugh!

Well, I am planning to be there. I may be arriving in a car rather than on a bike. And I may not arrive until Thursday afternoon/evening, though I'll try for Wednesday. I go in for a sleep study Tuesday evening, so there is a good chance that I won't sleep well/long that night. If so I may not leave until Thursday.

On my way yesterday. Very hot ride at 97 to 99 degrees all afternoon in Northern New Mexico. No chance of rain going North through Colorado today.

I had a sleep study. I asked them if I should take my sleep pill. They said yes, it doesn't work if I am awake! Good luck.

With most of the country oppressed by terrible heat, it seems crazy but parts of Montana and perhaps Eastern Idaho are under winter weather advisory!
