I just brought home a 2026 NT1100, and although it has two keys, I'd like a few ( or at least one) extra. I talked to the dealer, who quoted me a price of 34$ for one key BLANK, which I'd have to get cut somewhere. I checked online parts suppliers, and can get it more reasonably, but are there other alternatives?

I did try the local Ace Hardware, and Home Depot, but no luck.

A locksmith is more likely to be able to help than one of those box stores.

I always carry spare bike key taped on a business card. I grind away the metal I dont need. Two keys are ridiculas. Is the key an odd shape like my VFR key? Partszilla has them for 22 bucks

I have two keys of my new BMW, but the only thing the keys do is operate the locks on the luggage and seat (which are also controlled by the electronic central locking system). One key folds into the key fob and the other one is plastic. There is no ignition key as such. The electronic key fob enables starting the engine and activating the electronic unlocking of the bike, like most cars now. And for $30,000 you only get one electronic key fob with the bike. :( There is a reminder that appears on the screen when the key fob battery is low (I think). There are several pages in the owners manual (the real paper one) about some work-around for a dead key fob but I didn't read all that yet.

I went to the local locksmith and, as I'm in Europe, he was able to cut the key and clone the chip all for about (USD) $55. I've had it done for all the bikes I've had in the last 20 years.

I think things are a bit different in the US. Anyone have a bike with a chip?
Some of the new Triumps have keyless fobs...like my Subaru. $500 at dealer, $300 at Costco

My US version is different, it does not have a chip in the key. I bought the $34 blank from dealer and had local keyshop cut. (He said it was one of the harder ones to cut and did not guarantee the cut would work, but it works fine, but cost $20 to cut. I try not to drive or ride anything without a spare key, a locksmith on a call is not cheap!

WTF? If a batteru dies in one of my keyless fobs, I can hold the dead fob against the starter button.
They only gave you ONE fob? Ask them how much a second one costs.
I just bought a spare fob from Costco for $300. To stay home. One put to sleep and in a faraday bag hidden in the car. One fastened to my belt loop and in my pocket. My wife lost her smart key in a big field in Wenatchee. I created a smart backup for her. A group of dog people had to walk line abreast to find her keys.
Yes, I can unlock my car with my cell phone.
Yes, I can enter a secret number into a subaru hidden emergency button.
Yes, a dog can chew up one of my wife's key fobs.
Without a keyless fob, you have a brick. People dont understand that and take a spare seriously.
You will never see me without a chain on my wallet. You will never see me again staring at my wallet on the floor of the Home Depot crapper. You could see me riding along with my wallet on a chain dangling from the chain.
If I ever wanted a Bavarian tractor, I would say "2 Fobs, no sale" That is ridiculas.
Subaru actually offers key insurance in case you loose one.
The really sad thing is it takes seconds for someone to walk by your table at mcdonalds, sit down, and copy your key code and ride off with your bike. It litterally took five minutes for Subaru to burn a new key fob for me, cut the spare breakin key, and try out the fob functions.
Not important if you have an old Yamaha.
Very important if you have an expensive car.

Wise person. Every vehicle I have had in the last 40 years has a secondary key accessable somehow. If I am on a tour, I have two.
BTW, My 2004 Honda CRV has the same funky type key.
People dont want to think about all of this....they dont even check their spare tire pressure. Then one day some how your dogs or grand kids get accidently locked in the car on a hot day.
I can find my wife's car with my cell phone and inlock her doors from my cell phone.
