New-to-me 2010 NT700V. One of my mirrors needs adjusting more than just repositioning the mirror on the stalk, so I need to loosen the central bolt at the base of the stalk and change the stalk position. I tried to loosen it with moderate force and a standard-length Allen wrench and it wouldn't budge. I do have Allen head sockets so I can get lots of leverage, but wanted to make sure the bolts aren't left-hand thread before I lean on it.

Odd how much conflicting info I've found.

Some websites say the plastic housing is fixed and the glass mirror pivots inside it (mine doesn't), and to rotate the stalk I have to take off part of the fairing to loosen some kind of retainer under the plastic. The FSM just says remove the two bolts and take the mirror off. The parts catalog--same graphic and parts list at CMSNL.com and Partzilla--shows the two mirror bolts as Torx 6x13, with no part even listed for the larger central bolt, so I suppose it's part of the mirror assembly. The knuckle wind deflector kit, which I have, uses 4 Allen head (not Torx, for some reason) 6x20 bolts, which seem to be what I have, but still there's no mention of the central bolt. Nothing mentions the possibility of anything being left-hand thread; I'm being ultra-cautious about it because my Suzuki does use left-hand thread, at least on one side, and I don't want to break/strip anything.

Oddly the owner's manual doesn't mention mirrors at all.

So am I safe to loosen the central bolt by turning counter-clockwise with whatever force is needed?

They can be secured with Loctite, or simply rusted in place... šŸ˜‰
The bolts are also made from kinda soft alloy (even worse on aftermarket kits), so use of a proper fitting, metric hex wrench/bit is essential...

And no, the mirror glass sits fix in that plastic housing, which only pivots within that ball-joint where its attached to the stalk...
