Oh, NO! It's not your fault.
Since your were talking to your wife it is obviously HER fault. It is part of being married. The spouse is always at fault. That's the way it goes when you're married. I know because my wife told me many times.

No way Mike! You have got to man up. You've got to stand your ground. When you're right you're right. You must be your own advocate. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY you have to pick your battles very carefully.

I have done my chores for today and now that I have a chance to "single task" I can correct or clarify my earlier brain fart.
What I was trying to say was that "we"(we all, have seen the Northern Hemisphere, specifically, Europe), have just come out of Summer and if you look at "our" (their) covid numbers in Spain and France, they are at least as high as they have ever been and I think (looking at the data that I found) at their highest levels ever. Both countries opened up their economies early to try to salvage their Summer Tourist Business. It failed badly.
The Summer heat did not kill off the virus, only some of the tourists. Just like the guy who went to Sturgis.
Does this make it clearer than mud?

There, prior to Covid, the custom has always been that if you have a cold, cough or hay fever, you wear a mask so that you don't give your germs to others.
It is consideration for others, not yourself. Unfortunately, in Western Society it is "I'm Alright Jack, $#@* you".
My wife and I were wearing masks very early after the virus came to Oz, months before they were mandatory.
We already had sufficient stock when the panic buying and shortages started. We guessed what was coming very early on.
We used to get very strange looks from people in the street or shopping centres. We were proven to be the experienced/smart ones.

People wouldnt sit next to me on planes as I was wearing an N100 mask....I stock piled them in 2003 and 2009...though out of date, I wouldnt fly without one. You are correct about "individualism" in America. This was expressed recently by an official in Taiwan. Huge resistance to masks in rural Montana to the college campusus around the country to the pirate gangs. The me generation killing off America's greatest generation.
The Souith Dakota numbers werrent looking good when I left...
 
Yes, Chris. I think I saw that since the Rally ended, the infection numbers in SD have increased tenfold.
A percentage of those will either die or have permanent health damage.
I have seen recently how young people have ended up with permanently damaged hearts and other organs after recovering from the Virus.
I also see that South Korea is now in a worrying second wave of infection after doing so well the first time.
We cannot take for granted that once it seems to be under control it will not come back again.
We are all at risk until we have an effective vaccine.

As far as the rate of rally goers, that will never be known as IMHO many want to protect their individuality/ and friends and the event itself and wont admit where they got sick....but we know what happens when college kids go back to their frat houses and sororities.....and party. So far and on this last trip, I never saw a pirate wear a mask.

It looks like the pedestrians wear real masks...sugical masks or N95s...Here they wear see through pullups/bandanas or if they go into Wallmart, they pull their masks down off their nose or down completely, dareing the help to correct them. Are the people told that the mask type makes a difference depending on the result you want? Here, we are told to use cloth masks to protect others from us. In Japan...a country that has lots of Success....they wear surgical masks to protect others. But there are projections that Japan will surpass the US death rate in the end...go figure.

No mask is foolproof - fools are so ingenious! šŸ˜€

All a mask does is reduce the aerosol area when the person wearing it sneezes or coughs. On the other hand, if someone sneezes or coughs and you are wearing a mask, it's a little more difficult (but not impossible) for their "aerosol" to be inhaled but it can infect your eyes. You should also wear eye protection as well!

The problem is, we don't know who is infected and who isn't. They have found in France that a lot of young people have no symptoms but are infected - carriers in effect. Therefore it's a good idea for everyone to wear a mask due to the uncertainty factor.

Of course, we on this forum aren't young enough to know everything whereas the teenagers are... ;):D

The reason for their infections is that the Japanese Government refuses to impose any meaningful restrictions. Bars and restaurants are almost all open. The only restriction is that they close at 10pm IIRC.
Almost all businesses are operating as per usual.
Everyone wears a mask but they take it off to eat and drink next to their friends.
Almost all of the new infections are in people under 35YO (the ones who go out to eat/drink). The remaining few are the older ones who die.

Thanks. Sad to see. Korea had that problem from the get go but had real time contact tracing to stay ahead of the kids.....I saw 8 kids today in Spokane congregating in downtown Spokane. No Masks. I was hoping the Japanese were smarter than we are.....
Almost all our WA new infections are college kids but Frosty is right. Its not just college kids....
 
How on earth can 250,000 infection cost 12 billion dollars. Somebodies having a laugh!
