The 2019 NT Gathering - May 16-19, 2019 - Cairo, WV

KGNT - did you have to replace that entire footpeg holder piece? If not, how did you fix the stripped threads?

I had that shifter bolt fall out when I was at an event in KY and luckily one of my pals who was riding behind me saw it fall onto the road so he picked it up. It fell out just as I was leaving a stop light. I thought that was weird because I'd checked the tightness of that bolt a few weeks prior.

My fix was to take off the footpeg holder, grind away about 1/4" of material, and add a nut to the backside of the shifter bolt. And the nut is secured with thread lock.
Unmodified, there isn't enough thread showing to get a nut started.

I used a Heli coil Kit and some lock tight Also I now carry a extra shiftier bolt with me. So far so good

I just made offer on land / lot. I will be getting construction loan and building house asap(hire contractor, but I will do some work). this will go into the gathering time. so not sure for me, but I will try if not busy

I've been to most of the Spearfish rallies (and the first two gatherings of NT riders, 1) 2010, when six of us met in Michigan and rode for a day while I was starting my circumnavigation of Lake Superior on my way home to Colorado after the Concours Owners National Rally in Tomah, WI, and 2) when 11 or 12 of us met at Hill City, SD for the first-ever NT-Owners Rally; the next year we merged into Mellow's ST-Owners Rally in Spearfish) and to last years WV NT gathering. The obvious differences are location and dates.

The important differences, from my point of view are:

1) In WV, we stayed at a State Park with excellent lodging and food combined with a camping area. Most people stayed in the lodge and we ate breakfasts and dinners there.
At Spearfish, we're split between people who camp (a majority of the attendees) and those of us stay at Bell's Motel in Spearfish. We eat at different places, with most of the NT riders eating together.

2) In WV, we had organized rides on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. They were great rides.
At Spearfish, folks organized their own rides or just hung around the campgrounds and chewed the fat.

3) In WV, the majority of riders were on NT's but riders of other bikes were welcome.
At Spearfish, there are a lot of ST riders, quite a few ex-ST and NT riders, and several (maybe 10?) NT-riders.

The common denominator is great people and great places to ride. We had mostly good weather in WV and one night with torrential rain and high winds (and a nearby tornado in Spearfish Canyon) at Spearfish.

Either one is a great time.

Phil - Thanks for the kind words.

This is not really a competition because both venues have their advantages and I'd probably attend Spearfish but it's always too close in time to MSTA's National Rally, STAR, which is held in different locales each year. We picked a May date for the NT Gathering so it wouldn't conflict with other events plus give riders plenty of R & R time if they wanted to ride to Spearfish.

My advise is to pick one or the other (or both!) and have a great time! :)
 
Like my real estate agent always said. Location Location Location. Both very nice places to go and very different how far can you ride in the time you have?

Yeah I agree with karl and DirtFlier, Location and timing is a key for me, Not really interested in riding to S Dakota, WVa is closer, plus prime riding area for me, and third week of May is good for me, also June is booked for me every year, I've not been to ether event but I sure it be a great time with everybody at ether event.
 
I had a good time last year. The lodge is clean and reasonable. The food at the lodge and on the rides was very good. The led rides were excellent. The people were fun and friendly. And it was a good opportunity to see all the NT700 mods. All good reasons to attend in 2019.

I usually ride up with a friend who's moving to Berthoud from the mountains between Lyons and Estes. We've discovered some ways to make the ride more interesting. If you're interested, we'd be glad to have you join us.

WVRider (Duane) has made arrangements for us with the people at North Bend State Park so you can call now and reserve a room. And I did just that yesterday afternoon.

You need to tell them you're with the "NT Owner's Group Rally," to get the special price of $79+ per night. Most of the rooms have two double beds.

Their number is 304-643-2931 and the dates are May 16-19, 2019. Last year, the majority of people arrived on Thursday so we had our first gathering that night in the lodge restaurant. :)

Please re-RSVP for this event. The new software didn't have a way to convert this over as it is a mod and not part of the base software.
 
My ancient Kendon trailer is a non-tilt model and the deck height is 16-1/2" and I wish it was a bit lower or that my legs were 3" longer but such is life. I'm certainly not going to spend $3500 to get a newer Kendon just for the low deck height. Being an old coot, it is a dicey chore to get the bikes up and down the trailer. :-(
 
We're off to a good start with 8 people signed-up, plus a possibility of having 4 others. This is much improved from last year's early sign-up so I'm sure we'll have a strong turnout!
 
I just registered as a definite maybe. If all the stars align, I will be there this year. Also, I learned that there in a full scale replica of Noah's Ark just south of Cincinnati in Kentucky along with a Creation Museum nearby. I was planning on riding to the rally on US 50 and the Ark and Museum would just be a short jaunt off course. I would probably schedule an extra day or so to see these attractions. Has anyone ever been to them?
