2010 Red NT700V
Sitting at a stop sign, going downhill, when a city garbage truck decided to back up. Needless to say, I am in the market for a new Red 700! These things sure do break in half easy! Waiting on insurance to settle. Honda has already found me a new bike . Will have to ship it in from NY, but these babies are getting scarce!

Bummer! Talk about the wrong place at the wrong time!
Hope all works out on the insurance......and you get that new NT.
Thankfully you were not injured?

One small peg gouge on right leg & sore wrists from when the forks snapped out of the supports. Very Lucky!

Sorry to hear about your injuries and glad that you're OK.

Get a Stebel Nautilus on your next bike - they might just hear you.

+1 on this for me, I had one on my M109R and those suckers are freight train LOUD! Do not fire that horn off in the garage! Glad you're ok!!

Glad you're OK. Did they find you a red one? Might be a good opportunity to upgrade to ABS for not too much cash.

Are you talking about adding ABS to a non-ABS bike???
You'd be much better off to just buy an ABS model.
There are 67 NTs for sale on Cycletrader right now.

Glad you are OK! I am very curious about your comment, "Honda has already found me a new bike" There is a like new one at a dealership in Posser WA. Did you mean "Newtome" as in used bike? Or one in a crate?

When my wife's Subaru was hit by a dump truck a few months ago, I took pics when I arrived and due to a witness's testimony and my pics, the insurance of the dump truck company took complete responsibiltiy. We got a fair settlement.
(Since the dump truck driver got a ticket and committed two obvious infractions) But my wife wasnt hurt, and we didnt get an attorney at my wife's request.

Your case IMHO is entirely different. You were sitting at a stop sign when a CITY truck BACKED into you!!! And while your injuries were thankfully light, you were injuried. I would love to see the video of THAT one.
I am not a person who jumps on a bus after it has been hit and claims compensation. I dont sue at the drop of a hat. But there is fair and just compensation. YOU have the moral high ground. They OWE you for your lost time, etc.
They need to take responsibility and step up to the plate. I hope you let us know what happens. What you do is your choice. If it were ME, I would take nothing less than full retail value of your used bike plus farkles, state sales tax,
loss of use over the period from the wreck to when they make their offer. (analygis to the cost of a rental car/bike) and compensation for inconvieniance. I just spent 40 hours farkleing up my new Suzuki. If a gabage truck where to hit it,
I would expect a new XT, cost of the farkles, installation of same by a dealer, etc etc etc. AND my choice of a rental bike or fair compensation till the dealer gets in my new bike and the farkles and installs them.

I cant believe these trucks dont have backup cameras. Sooooo inexpensive. Could you please to into more detail about HOW a truck backed into you at a Stop sign?

If the city whines, just go in and grab your back......they will stop whining. ;)

The original post was on 11-11-2012. I suspect this one has been resolved....

Actually just passed me as I was leaving the office...they even waved. At the stop sign, the truck's backup lights came on...I thought he was just kidding around...Then he started backing up...on a hill... my feet barely touch the ground anyway, so I bailed off to the right side after laying on my horn & yelling. Driver said he backed up to let a bus turn, but no bus ever turned! Honda found a new one leftover on the floor at a Michigan Dealer. Made money on that deal from city settlement !

Glad there was no more pain than there was. And you made out OK. When the above mentioned Dump truck hit my wife's Sub and she wasnt hurt but the driver was clearly in the wrong and got a ticket. The hassel is dealing with an insurance company who admits 100 percent fault and still wont give you enough diminished value even though they did fix the car....My wife chose not to fight the insurance company and that was her decision.

There are things that happen in accidents that you would never imagine. For instance, the insurance company rented for us a SUV for 10 days while the car was being fixed. They had a contract with Enterprise.
1. ONE KEYLESS FOB. Loose it and you pay out the nose.
2. NO DIRT ROADS
3. NO TAKING CAR INTO IDAHO
4. NO PETS (all my wife does is chaufer dogs around)
5. NO allwheel drive available at the place we got it from. They didnt want to do a "search" for an awd vehicle, but I bet they could have found one at Spokane Internaional.

My wife is a very nice person who doesnt want to be bothered...she wanted to move on.
She is married to an *** (son of a gun) who , if the insurance company wouldnt play ball, would have held his neck the day after the accident and reported an injury. Then if they wouldnt have coughed up the money to make this right, would have called an ambulance chaser and made them pay what they owned me.

The good news is that while I kept my insurance agent in the loop, I didnt have to file a claim and let them go to bat for me.

I know the feeling... fight until my dying breath !I do tend to hold a grudge...

Me too! Talked with neighbor 2 days ago. Pitbull nailed husband in mouth and has 2 years ago. She is still fighting owners insurance company for claim while reconstructive surgeries go on.
