Anyone willing to take a stab at why a nt700v headlight would not be working (low nor high beam)? Also, is it hard to get to the blub to change it.
Last, if blub is ok (guess one can still tell if bad by looking at the bulb once removed) what might be the next step to trouble shoot the issue?

Hate to buy the used bike and spend yet another $300 +/- to get the headlight working.

Headlight relay would the first place I look since neither low or high beam is working. Check the manual (available on this forum) to see if there's a fuse.

In the starter button, somewhere in that system line is the problem. When you press the starter button, the headlight goes out so power goes to starter. Just can't remember specifically what to look for. The headlight bulbs are halogen unless been changed out by previous owner to LED. so you can see filaments to see if broken. But it's in starter switch, cause both bulbs not working.

You can get in there, back side of bulbs. Rubber cover, then a wire spring like assembly holds bulb flange in place

My money is on the starter button. Take apart and clean with contact cleaner.

How does the starter button come into play with the headlight on this model? The bike starts ok though did notice the right switch gear rounded body did twist on the handle bar instead of being locked in place.

Will have to open up right side control module. Contact cleaner on something in there. I did mine about 10 yrs ago, so don't remember. Either spring plate, spring, or ball bearing like thing.

If bike endured more rain or stored outside can make this fail easier. If doesn't work by working on it, can just buy new controller part. Partzilla.com

There is a pair of elect contacts on that circuit so the lights go out while cranking the starter to give the starter full power available. If those contacts get a bit corroded, then power to the headlights can't get there.

As said does the starter button utilize a C-NO-NC changeover contact, disengaging the headlights while being pushed and powering the starter relay to keep the total current/consumption/strain on battery low, the the voltage thus the starter RPM high, protect the bulbs, etc...
Common on all bikes with 'hard-wired' head/lights...

Then either the securing pin of the lower half isn't inserted into the designated bore in the tube, or its missing entirely...

I feel I will be traveling down a rabbit hole on this task. See several models to pick from on their site (don't know which to pick so just took a shot at it).
Plus, see this part, uncertain if correct one, cost looks to be like $45 before shipping.
start & Stop switch
Then I am wondering just how one connects any said wiring switch 'end' plugs back into the bike and how hard to get to those places.
As nice as it seems to get a used bike for $1,600 am beginning to feel it might not be as such a good deal as I would think.
Thanks for prior reply and any input on new questions asked.

In addition, just saw a fbm ad for a 1987 honda pacific coast with 54k miles for $2,600. New tires, etc. Thing is, these are so old not certain one can still get parts for them.
Figure if I post the comment here few on the site will see it lol. I have weird taste in bikes at times...

I wouldn't go with PC800, carb bike. I had 2 PC 800 and 2 NT700. PC has 46 HP for 800cc, vs 64HP for smaller FI 700cc. Less problems for FI than old sitting around carb bike.

I've had to replace each side of control modules at some point cause I put a bunch of miles on them. 201,101 miles on 1st NT, then 129,060 on 2nd NT before 15 yr old driving illegally turned left immediately in front of me

So they just easily plug into cables, no cutting or messing with individual wires

I went to look at it, guy had cleaned it up really nice though it just did not move to much at all. Guess I liked the idea of a 'kitchen sink' saddle bag more than the idea of the hidden engine under the plastic. Still, was good to get it out of my head. So undecided on that used nt700v for sale just worried about issues that need to be fixed before it even gets to my house.

Agree with Starter Button. I had to clean mine a couple times and at about 90K I replaced the whole assembly. That is a common problem, especially once the plastic in there cracks. i was able to melt a piece to it which worked for a couple years.
