2011 Red NT700
Good afternoon:

I had a bit of bad luck with my latest NT700, (went from silver to red) and the rear end slipped out from under me in the rain, (not sure it was the tires but I'm not buying Pirellis next time, even if I have to wait six months). It would not have been so bad but the previous owner had installed U bolts smack dab in the middle of the lid so he could us a strap to hold it closed. Long story shortened, I was planning on removing that and putting snap locks but the incident caused the lid to shatter. Does anyone have any ideas where I could get a right hand, (or both) regular lids for an NT700? Almost all my searches have ended up with people that are out of stock except one in Lithuania who will ship to certain states in the US but TN is not on the list.

Once again, I am in Florida until Spring with a set of original silver Pannier lids in Spokane. A month too late unless you can wait until Spring.

I will be in Florida in a couple of weeks, but that doesn't help at all. What would you want for them shipped to TN in the spring?

I’m not a slammer. I’ve seen the warnings here. But I do use them.IMG_9928.jpegIMG_9927.jpeg

Yeah, I was carrying groceries. I closed it and it cracked and broke. Luckily I carry 550 cord pretty much everywhere so I wrapped that around the bike a few times finished it with a truckers hitch and gingerly went down the road.

If the previous owner hadn't put u bolts through the middle of the lid for a strap to hold it closed, I doubt mine would have been more than scratched up. But the hit shattered it

BLUF: can anyone recommend generic saddle bags in lieu of the panniers?

Here’s my way ahead:

-Remove both broken pannier covers
- cap each side with flat and painted piece of painted wood or plastic, held by long bolt going through the pass through from one panel to the other
- hang saddle bags
- ride mo’

Thoughts?

Well, my first thought is that it would be a waste of storage space if the 1/2 capacity of each side and pass-through are no longer functional. Since it is a flat sealing surface, why not take those panels you make and add hinges to the bottom and a hasp at the top. You can still add hard cases to each side. This would result in storage that is infrequently accessed, but usable. I'd put tools, compressor, jump starter... things I don't access very often in there, so it's there when I need it. Just a thought.

Excellent idea!

When you getter done, let us know some details. If I'm still on this bike this time next year, I will be likely be ready to do something similar.

I'm thinking of adding snaps and a soft cover until frosty gets home. Still interested in those lids. :)
I am thinking of converting my bike to stock side cases. Have two large black lids and a red right hand large lid.

How much?
I paid $240 for the pair of black lids about 6 months ago. Have the stock latches for them - they do have after market latches on them now. 4 small holes per lid to fill in if you stay stock. I would take $200 for the two black lids, plus shipping.
