Trouble in Paradise?

Everyone should be raising HELL about the the lack of regulation around sub 50cc scooters. Why? Their accidents are reported as motorcycle accidents, in most states, and are impacting you directly in insurance rates and regulations.

You get your license suspended means NO motor vehicles in public roads.
That's an interesting take on it. Would that also include e-bikes and e-skateboards?

Around Ft Morgan and Loveland when I lived there, the surest sign of a driver who's license had been suspended for a DUI was a guy riding an old 10-speed bike with the handlebars flipped upside down.

"...a guy riding an old 10-speed bike with the handlebars flipped upside down..."

Phil - that should be downside UP with the bar ends facing forward. ;)

As regards the aging demographic, for the past decade Honda has been aiming at the lower end of the scale with small bikes: 50s, 125s, 300s, and 500s to help grow the next crop of riders. Royal Enfield has followed somewhat the same tact by keeping their bikes A2 eligible for licensing although they are fully capable of making ones with larger and more powerful engines.

My daughter-in-law has always wanted to learn to ride her own motorcycle. Last week, Mike Jr. gifted her a new Honda Cub. I think it is great that she is starting out with a small "learner" bike. It is so much easier to learn the fundamentals of motorcycling when you are not intimidated by the size of the bike. In time, I'm sure she will graduate to something larger.

In my 16 yrs running the Honda Rider Ed Ctr, I saw lots of examples of riders who started riding relatively late in life and on a machine way too big for their fledgling skills because of peer pressure. They never seemed to get any better because they never got over their fear of the machine. And I'd have to assume they mostly rode on group rides where all the decisions were made for them. Riding alone has lots of benefits because it teaches one how to survive.

There is not really a definition on makes a motorcycle a learner or beginner motorcycles. Some of the most fun I have had as an experienced motorcyclist is riding single cylinder small bore motorcycles and scooters. For several years while I had a larger motorcycle I commuted to work on a restored 1966 Honda S90 and it made my commute something I looked forward to.

Start them young. My son on my Yamaha.

He was 3 or 4 years old. He now has an Indian Roadmaster.

My wife started riding at about age 60, she took a MSF beginner riding course, and got reasonably good for a beginner, she rode a Honda Helix a 250 cc scooter for a couple of years, she never really got comfortable riding and quit after a couple of years.

It appears that the major shareholder in the MoCo has had their fill of Jochen Zeitz governance and wants to give him and several long time directors the boot. I'm not surprised at Zeitz being shown the door as since he has been CEO the trajectory of the MoCo's stock price and profitability has been spiralling downward. Livewire continues to be a dead issue and there are no bright prospects on the horizon. The appointment of Zeitz to CEO never made sense to me as his prior experience was in sportswear. The shareholders who are wanting to renew HD have created a website, Free the Eagle.com for more info.
