Top Box woes and throws

Hey NTers,

I've got one for you. I worked for months researching top boxes, etc. Found a used Honda top box for an NT. Bought it from the UK and they shiped it. Yay. Now for the base -- looked online, found the exact OEM and they shipped it. And it looks like this:

It fits the box perfectly. But not my NT700. I cannot find any way to attach this to the two nuts (even if I purchase longer 8mms, it is not going to fit. The triangular holes are right where the bolts are and I don't really want to jury-rig this thing. This is driving me nuts. If there is something I missed, please let me know, but everything I purchased said it would fit the US model. But I can't figure out how this is supposed to go on there -- some pictures show a flat plate under this one, but it isn't in any of the manuals. Any and all thoughts are helpful and appreciated.

You'll nee to detach the plastic carrier from the metal base first; the latter then gets bolted onto the tail section, but you'll first need to additionally insert 2x P/N 61304165013 (nut, headlight set) into the grab-rails from below as there no M8 threads for the bolts to grab... (those where actually missing on my GF's NT, hence case + carrier where attached by the rear bolts only, the whole assy wiggling like an lamb's tail...)

Edit:

aaaaand... found the installation instructions as *.pdf 😎

Hint: fix those headlight nuts into there with a dab from a hot glue gun, otherwise Newton will likely pull them somewhere into the nirvana of the rear fairing parts... ;)

Oh Wow. Great insight and very much appreciated. I kind of figured that. The base plate I received is exactly the one you identified from CMS, but it was only one piece (plastic) and is molded -- no metal base plate attached. I think I need the metal baseplace and then need to drill some holes -- not too excited about either. Any thoughts on where to score a baseplate? I have a friend with a shop and can probably create one, but I am trying to do this the right way (and it is not a very smart move on my part...). Thanks so much for your help!

If you truly got the HONDA top box, you should be able to buy from parts fiche that plate. I get stuff for NT on partzilla.com. other websites might too, or ebay.

I may still have the installation instructions from Traveller's top box, I will look and if I can find the P/N, I will post it

Have a peek:

This should arm you with enough part numbers for a search

That's the one! I can tell by looking at it that is what I need. Thrilled -- I am going to CMS now to make it happen. Thanks so much everyone!
