After 3-years of trying the HRC team finally won the event. Brabec (USA) was 1st and Barreda (ES) was 5th but a day earlier there were one of two other Honda riders in the first 5. On that final day, some KTM & Husky riders made a big push to jump into the front group.

ps. No, this probably doesn't mean we'll get a NT1000 soon!

Previous wins by Honda were in 1982 with an overbored XR500 single, then 1986-89 with V-twin 750s and 800s. Some of the 750 parts were later used by American Honda's flat track team when Bubba Shoebert won multiple flat track championships in the 1990s.

Joan Barreda is Catalan, an excellent driver.

Yes, "Boom-boom" is from Catalan. He is blazing fast but has often had terrible luck at Dakar Rally. He has won other desert rallys in the series but most people only know about Dakar.
