Boy, what a job securing this thing!!! Bought it on Friday 5-2, picking up Saturday 5-3. These things are hotcakes!! So as reported in another thread, on Tuesday this week I was looking at Cycletrader, 2 popped up in Ohio. Then Wednesday, more started showing up on Cycletrader, one was 45 miles from me, so I transferred to dealer website, not showing up as only 1 day on trader. Sent a txt, already SOLD. Then found another one Thursday 66 miles from me, ahh, really too far, but found one 45 miles from me. Change my plans for Friday on how to get to that City with picking up yard sale stuff and my Mom. So we make it to that City around 3:45pm, only to find 15 minutes too late, somebody from SC drove up to trade for this NT1100!! Darn, thought I was good to go in a smaller town and get it, like squeak by without anybody knowing they had one!!

So instead of going home, had to drive right away to a dealer ( 1.25 hrs away)that I had seen 6 weeks ago and got my name on the sheet as wanting one. This dealer just Thurday night said they didn't have one yet. So received a txt Friday morning that they had one on floor. So told them, probably wouldn't get there until Saturday to look at it, but the 3:45pm check at other dealer made this visit top priority. Gotta get it or its GONE!! So I beat anybody else to it and got it!!

What Honda is doing, is letting each dealer have ONE, to space out the opportunity for them to sell, like spread the word type of situation. And they DON"T know when they can get more, best guess was in another 4 weeks. So completed the deal after actual business hours. Because of limited supply, this is FIRST time I had to pay FULL price for any motorcycle. So I only sat on it, fit is good for me, and what you see by sitting on it is really neat engineering. They are only in blue without saddlebags, and will be DCT for right now. Could be possible to order with saddlebags, but that will take longer. So I did order the bags, and there is a choice on a color panel either blue like bike or chrome look that gets attached to the outer door.

So after the yard sale, its off to pick up bike, hopefully before the rain moves in

So all I can tell Chuck who's thinking about one, better act fast or you will lose

No pictures so I think this is spam...lol

If anybody is still looking, Fay Myers Motorcycle world https://www.faymyers.com/ has one. Not on the sales
floor yet, as it was still in their assembly shop, and as of 0900 this morning not spoken for. I have a deal going with another dealer so this one is up for grabs. I put eye on it this morning. Beautiful Blue. If you call ask for Chris and mention my name.

Hummm ....matches my car....actually, this is only the second car I have owned with a CVT, set to 8 speeds. I didnt think I would use the paddle shifters but they are great for slowing down or descending long steep hills. Wanna see the Panniers and roll bars for the NT and the luggage rack.

I suspect Honda will bring one of these to the Honda pavillion at the EAA convention in Oshkosh Wisconsin.

Ride home. First impressions.... seems like the rider portion of seat same as 700. What makes it harder to mount, is passenger portion is higher up, causing a higher leg maneuver. The rider seat has slight forward angle causing motion to slide towards tank, making a wedgie imminent!! Suspension seemed a bit harsh. Checked tire pressure when home, all good there. Have to look at rear adjustment on shock, probably could back off some. Front forks don't have adjustment. Only engine has different modes.
53 mile interstate ride. Looking for a bigger windshield, none yet or one made in USA. Did look at UK NT1100 forum for windshield and seat recommendations, none found for made in USA.

Have NOT had chain drive since my first 1978 Suzuki GS550 street bike, after that all have been final drives.

So need to goto the chain guru of this forum Chuck. Please enlighten me on what you use on chains and procedures.

DCT at low throttle, shifts fast. Seems to have a shutter at lower speeds, and seems to be a bit buzzy at lower speeds. Was getting around 40 computer mpg on my ride home at 71 mph.

Oil filter is same as 700. Coolant overflow tank is in a wierd place, just look above brake lever, there it is. Yep, down that low. Missing the 700 front storage pockets on the 1100. Darn, NOTHING in front area for storage. Only under passenger seat.

Just real weird to get used to DCT. You can manual shifts at any point, as paddle shifters +/- there to do it. Did manual downshift to rev it up and get going. Got plenty of HP at 101, to get up and go
Going to ride Sunday afternoon. Ordered Givi Maxia top box tonight

Been reading some of the NT1100 Facebook pages. Interesting stuff. I am reading that there is a backlog on the panniers and top box. Also sifting thru what after market stuff is available over seas. It is going to be a while before that all catches up here in the US.

Dave, don't overthink the chain and sprocket drive system. In my simple mind the chain/sproket ware has more to do with how much power you put to the system than whatever you apply to the outside of the chain. If you use all of those 100 horses frequently your chain/sprocket will wear faster. The chains are lubricated at assembly and it is important to avoid using any solvent that compromises that lubricant. Whatever else you do to the outside has more to do with sprocket wear than chain wear. Chain lube was a lot more of an issue before we had o-ring and x-ring sealed chains.

I simplify chain lube into 3 categories based on the base of the lube. And there are advantages and disadvantages of each.
Silicone based lubes are easiest to apply, dries, and attract less dirt, but don't last long at all in wet weather.
Petroleum based lubes are the best in wet weather but are messier and attract dirt making them hard to clean.
Wax based lubes are sort of in-between.
Choose your own poison. It doesn't really make that much difference as long as you avoid compromising the lube inside the sealed chain. You'll get somewhat different very minor feedback from the chain with different products.

But do pay attention to keeping the chain in adjustment. The bike will tell you when it is unhappy with the adjustment. Shifting will get rough. When chain stretch is reaching the maximum limits start thinking about your replacement. The chain pitch must match the sprocket pitch. They sort of wear out together. Some folks replace the chain a little early and run the sprockets for a second chain. Some folks run the chain/sprocket down to the max and change both at once (20,000-30,000 miles) YMMV. Adjustment will be more frequent toward the end of the chain life.

I carry a can of wax spray lube and a repair kit (which I have never used on the road) when I travel and change my sprockets with each chain at about 30K miles. When you do change sprockets you have an opportunity to change your final drive ratio to suit your riding needs. But I wouldn't make any big change if at all.

With regard to your windshield you might want to consider one of those add-on lips to the top of your stock windscreen. They can be quite effective - sometimes. I've had good ones and bad ones. My current favorite is the Madstad windshield system that for me gives the most adjustability and height options. I order a taller one than what I think I'll need and trim it down as needed. They adjust vertically as well as tilt. But they look ugly (except from the riders seat).

The lack of the handy storage compartments in the NT is an issue for sure. But they make some nice tank bag options. Enjoy your new ride!!!!!

You might want to look to Givi for a windshield. I've got an adjustable two piece from Givi for my Wee and I really like it. I have an MRA windscreen on the NT that has the upper air foil that I like as well.

The chain has what appears to be a nice thick white lube. Probably white lithium grease. Wow, I didn't know a chain and sprocket only lasts 20-30 K. For me that's 12-15 months

I added the extra 5 yrs Honda warranty for $800, after they came down in price. I don't buy extra warranty, but asked, lady said she has seen more bikes come in with DCT problems. I did also buy the Can Am spyder warranty too, but didn't use it

I will check chain slack before a ride today

Lots of them available in France. If it had shaft drive, I'd buy it. For me, that's a deal breaker. Though, there are one or two other things I'm not so keen on but could live with.

Did a night ride tonight. Darn, NO backlighting at ALL on left or right control modules. There are alot of buttons to memorize by finger movement. On the plus side, LED headlights whether low or high beam are excellent. That shudder i mentioned, if your just putting alot, DCT shifts early and yes the engine can take it, but it's just lugging some to create that shudder until 40mph. Roll on the throttle,,,, when rpm hits 4,500 rpm, you are movin on out down the road excellent speed!!

The windscreen is so small, an add on like Lamar Lip or similar wouldn't help. It probably 10" horizontal measurement at top. I would like it to be 6-7 more width and same for height. It does have a small wing like deflector on each side of screen
