After setting the valves on my Stihl weed wacker and having it start so easy now, I got inspired to do my Honda 2000 watt Gen. which has a fairly short check interval.
The removal of plastic, etc to get to the rocker box is not fun, and after watching some youtubes, there is so much bravo sierra about the proceedure, even wrong valve clearances,
I wonder if any of you have experience as to what I have to do to get to the valve cover.
I am tempted to take a dremmel and make my own access cover...😈

Here is an example of an idiot. Wrong valve clearrance, disconnects inverter board.

Note no page numbers. Note rear cover removal may or may not be pdf page 42

Note. there is no reason to remove the recoil starter. Take out the plug and put the piston at TDC and see if the valves move.

So, when you doing valves on your VTEC VFR? :D
Never. It uses shims. Most of the time, the VTEC valves arent even engaged. My Toyota dealer says no need to check the valves on my 2006 Matrix. They have never seen one out of adjustment. Ford Shim engines, according to engineers at the Ford Pavillion at Oshgosh, are torchure tested. They never change. My shim over bucket Yamaha 650 Seca I had for over a decade had one shim that I changed just because but I didnt have to. Not checking my FJR or WeeStrum either.

Interesting. I pulled the air cleaner and just for laughs, I sprayed some starting fluid into the carb intake and jerked the rope. Started right up after 3 months. My personal opinion is that thesee engines are a pita cause there is a fuel pump and once the very small "float" bowl empties, you have to pull and pull. I am still gonna check the valves,

Ok, checked the valves. Spot on. Bought in 2015. Clearly there is a design flaw in everyone I have used. I will make a port for starting fluid.IMG_20240927_111929919_copy_600x450.jpg

Bought my Honda EU2000 in 2012. Never checked the valves, but I ALWAYS drain the float bowl after using it. All my fuel on site has Stabil fuel treatment. It starts without fail anytime I need it.
However, I haven’t used it much since we installed the Cummins 20 kw backup generator in 2019. It is flawless. Highly recommended.

I will try that but the sucker has a fuel pump. Honda Rep said it's an issue. I am making a port for starting fluid hose. After 4 weeks, it takes 10 pills.
