I don't recall the last time I had a flat on a bike tire. I do recall a tube failure in the mid-70s.I rode my NT for 9 years as my everyday commuter and I never had a flat tire. After trading it in on a Yamaha XMAX I picked up a drywall screw in the first 300 miles. Fortunately it was in a good location and I plugged it with a stop and go mushroom plug which lasted the life of the tire.
A tube failure with rapid pressure loss with a passenger on board can be a memorable experience.I do recall a tube failure in the mid-70s.
I was going about 65 mph around a sweeping turn on the NW expressway in Tulsa. As soon as the rear tire went flat the bike straightened up; I ran off the road, missed a light pole by less than a foot. Hit a ditch and went flying, landing pretty much on my head. It went OK but I still remember the pucker factor.
I feel better with tubeless.
