Thanks! I may have to get one of those, even if my $.69 junction box cover with string tied to it works just fine. It's just not as "cool."

The junction box does work fine, but this thing fits in the little compartment on the tank, with my glasses, and yes it has the cool factor for sure!!

I like the magnet idea. I use a piece of 1/4" thick aluminum deck plate someone cut into a 3 or 4 inch square. It works very well but in very soft surfaces the magnet idea may help center and retreive the stand. Almost need to carry one of these all the time. Park on soft surface it is cheap insurance, and hot asphaut it is also very much needed.

I never heard of gluing a string.. just drill a hole in it. I pefer to attach a pad to the bottom of my kickstand and forget about it.
 
I have one of those thin plastic (UHMW) kitchen cutting boards. I leave it in the left side box. It's big enough (about 8x10) to keep the stand from sinking in almost anything, including mud :)
 
I did drill a hole for the string, it was a good idea.
 
A self coiling "dummy cord" would be a neat addition. It would be both a reminder and make it quicker to put away... This one from Lockitt looks pretty good and is cheap....:smile:

That is exactly why I hate :mad: to buy small items over the web. I'd be looking for something like it locally...

A quick Shipping cost check shows the Twisted Throttle Foot is $18.55, with USPS Shipping. At Lockitt if you buy their Kick Stand Foot and the Dummy Cord it is $14.15 with USPS Shipping. Both are too high on Shipping costs...:rolleyes1:
 
Lockitt's kickstand pad isn't magnetic, which is the only upside I can see for any of the kickstand feet over my $.69 junction box cover.

I have a sidestand plate on a coil cord that I've been using, off and on, for years. I find the coil cord rather irritating. It tangles worse than a straight cord when packed, and when I am trying to set the plate down, the springy cord makes it bob and this makes it harder to place the plate. It's not annoying enough that I have ever gotten around to changing it, even though it would be really easy. But I wouldn't waste time and energy to specifically seek out a coil cord for a sidestand plate.

Same for electrical box covers. I'm sure they work fine, but I have dozens of the purpose-made sidestand plates floating around my garage. Everywhere I go, people are handing them out. There's no need to go to Home Depot and spend 69 cents, unless you have a strong preference for steel over brightly colored plastic with ads printed on it.

You must hang out in a better class of places than I do! No one has ever been handing out purpose-made sidestand plates anywhere I've ever been. And I don't have a steel plate, just a blue plastic junction box cover from Ace, my Hardware Place.

Thanks for what you said about the coil cord. That'll save me that expense... my six foot piece of twine that's tied to the cover on one end and into a loop (with a bowline knot, no less) on the other so it will fit over my left handlebar and clutch grip works just fine and I just wrap it around the cover before slipping it into the right fairing pocket.
 
Good point, I'm gonna avoid the coiled cord.

The "magnetic" feature is the best part of this item!

To each his, or her, own... I use coiled "dummy" cords, and power cords, to avoid the hassle of winding them up and so I don't have the "regular" cord vibrate off and make a messy tangle with my other cords... Between a disc lock reminder cord, GPS, cell phone, and aux power cord it would get really ugly with regular cords when I unlock / plug everything...

Well, "everywhere" is a bit of an exaggeration. But there are always a few insurance agents handing them out, at the IMS show. And at Iron Pony, if you spend enough money they put one in the bag. And if you stop at a dealer open house they may hand you one with your free hot dog. They find their way into the Givis, and from there they migrate to my workbench, where I have a little pile of them. Stop by sometime and I will give you one. :)

The coil cord was a freebie, too. I found it, already attached to a sidestand plate, on the ground at a campsite after most of the other riders had packed up and left. It has a spring clip on one end that has the name of a casino on it, so I'm guessing it was someone else's freebie before it was mine. I dropped it in my tank bag and the next time I saw the rider who'd been on that site, I tried to give it to him, but he said it wasn't his. It has stayed in one tankbag or another ever since.
